Extracts from 'Fingerprints of The Gods', by Graham Hancock, Mandarin Paperbacks, 1996
'Surely the most impressive and scholarly piece of work on the subject ever produced ... I suspect this book will come to be regarded as one of the intellectual landmarks of this decade.' - Literary Review
Note, Graham Hancock quotes many sources in this book. In the extracts below, Hancock quotes from: 'South American Mythology', by H. Osborne, and, 'An Introduction to the Study of Maya Hieroglyphs', by S. G. Morley.
VIRACOCHA - Description
Page 51 ....
A bearded man of medium height, dressed in a rather long cloak ... He was past his prime, with grey hair, and lean. He walked with a staff, and addressed the natives with love, calling them his sons and daughters. As he traversed all the land, he worked miracles. He healed the sick by touch. He spoke every tongue even better than the natives. They called him Thunupa or Tarpaca, Viracocha-ripacha, or Pachaccan ...
-- Graham Hancock
QUETZALCOATL - Description
Page 109 ....
'... the bearded, white-skinned deity named Quetzalcoatl, who was believed to have sailed to Mexico from across the seas in remote antiquity. Quetzalcoatl was credited with the invention of the advanced mathematical and calendrical formulae that the Maya were later to use to calculate the date of doomsday. He also bore a striking resemblance to Viracocha, the pale god of the Andes, who came to Tiahuanaco 'in the time of darkness' bearing the gifts of light and civilization.'
-- South American Mythology, H. Osborne, Hamlyn, 1968, page 74
~~~
QUETZALCOATL - His Return
Pages 111/112 ....
'The great god Kukulkan, or Feathered Serpent, was the Mayan counterpart of the Aztec Quetzalcoatl, the Mexican god of light, learning and culture. In the Maya pantheon he was regarded as having been the great organiser, the founder of cities, the former of laws and the teacher of the calendar. Indeed his attributes and life history are so human that it is not improbable that he may have been an actual historical character, some great lawgiver and organizer, the memory of whose benefactions lasted long after death, and whose personality was eventually deified.'
-- An Introduction to the Study of Maya Hieroglyphs, S. G. Morley, Dover, 175
All the legends stated unambiguously that Quetzalcoatl / Kukulkan / Gucumatz / Votan / Izamana had arrived in Central America from somewhere very far away (across the 'Eastern Sea') and that amid great sadness he had eventually sailed off again in the direction whence he had come.
The legends added that he had promised solemnly that HE WOULD RETURN ONE DAY - a clear echo of Viracocha it would be almost perverse to ascribe to coincidence.
__2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl___ by Daniel Pinchbeck
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 4:07 PMindeed the 'signs' are everywhere I found this very interesting too
a friend sent it and I intend to explore more from DP
Page 377-78
“If the god-form Quetzalcoatl has announced his return, it seems plausible that other archetypes will manifest in the brief historical period remaining to us. An intricate pattern of legends, mythic archetypes, and prophetic strands twine around the English village of Glastonbury, linking the town, in Michell’s words, ‘with the age-old prophecy of the golden age restored, of the recovery of the Grail, the reappearance of Arthur’s Round Table or the coming of Christ’s kingdom on Earth.’ One tradition, linking New Age visions with ancient yearnings, calls for the gathering of the twelve tribes of humanity at Glastonbury, creating a thirteenth tribe, reconciling Heaven and Earth in a ‘New Jerusalem.’ Glastonbury might provide a perfect setting for the cross-disciplinary summit, reconciling science and spirit, required to bring down the imprint of the new time, which could be disseminated through the global commons.“By reestablishing harmony, we would realize, in Black Elk’s words, ‘Every place is the center of the world.’ Or, as Robert Lawlor defined the aboriginal perspective, ‘There is no part of this existence that needs to be transcended, repressed, or gone beyond.’ Through this act of conscious concordance, we might also, quite naturally, reaccess the sacred sciences and ritual practices of prehistory, such as geomancy and alchemy. And if my hypothesis about the crop formations has validity, such a unifying gesture may be a prerequisite for humanity to enter into direct contact, benevolent communion, with other orders of galactic intelligence.
“In __The New View over Atlantis__, John Michell examined temples, pyramids, and monuments from Mesoamerica, England, Egypt, and elsewhere, propounding the thesis that there was once a planetary civilization based on a univeral canon of measure and proportion and visionary awareness of the Earth’s subtle energy fields. ‘The nerve centers of the Earth, corresponding on the human body to the acupuncture points of Chinese medicine, were guarded and sanctified by sacred buildings, themselves laid out as microcosms of the cosmic order, the universal body of God.’ He believed that knowledge of this order was preserved in the building of the Glastonbury Abbey, where various symbolic numbers, including 666, were utilized prominently in the architectural plan.
“‘The number 666 is that of Teitan, a solar deity,’ he wrote, ‘It represents an eternal, natural principle, transcending any moral category.’ Teitan—Cheitan, in the Chaldean language–was the snake god who brought knowledge to humanity. As mythic polarity gave way to mental duality, this deity was reduced to a baleful influence, given the name Satan in the Bible. While the institutional church associated the number with evil. Gnostics within the church ‘recognized the number for what it was, an essential element in the true cosmic scheme, and in laying out their mystic citadels they allowed 666, the number of solar power, to occupy its due place in the numberical order.’ According to the Gnostic version of the biblical tale, the serpent in the Garden of Eden was actually an apparition of Christ, bringing knowledge to humans, seeking to liberate them from the wicked demiurge who kept them in ignorance. The ‘Great Beast’ of the Apocalypse, first appearing in Revelation 13, possesses an intricate ambiguity, linking him to these older traditions.
“The shattering of the Glastonbury Abbey as ‘the devil’s temple’ during the Reformation represented the final destruction, in the West, of the ancient mind-set that understood the necessity of maintaining a proper balance between cosmic forces. For the Puritans, ‘the beast represented some absolute principle of evil, irreconcilable with the iron rule of humanly created morality,’ Michell notes. ‘The beast, like the dragon, had to be suppressed.’ For this reason, as well as many others, Glastonbury could be the logical place for reintegrating Sun, Moon, and Earth, establishing a template for planetary civilization.
Page 394
“If we are graduating from nation-states to a noospheric state, we may find ourselves exploring the kind of nonhierarchical social organization----a “synarchy,” based on trust and telepathy—that the Hopi and other aboriginal groups have used for millenia. If a global civilization can self-organize from our current chaos, it will be founded on cooperation rather than winner-take-all competition, sufficiency rather than surfeit, communal solidarity rather than individual elitism, reasserting the sacred nature of all earthly life. Those who desire such a world will work to create it.
Re: __2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl___ by Daniel Pinchbeck
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 6:01 AMThat's very interesting. Very.
I seemed to get a bit of opposition at 'Year 2012' to this post and idea by the very small number of 'mouths' there who don't seem to want Quetzalcoatl or any other wise and knowledgeable being to return. It's not too hard to figure out why they are in opposition.
Quetzalcoatl's Return topic at 'Year 2012' tribe ....
2012.tribe.net/thread/a43...c04f44ab5b2
Do you fancy getting in the debate there, at 'Year 2012'?
Me too. But I do it because I keep getting a strong feeling that those higher beings - including benevolent ET - seem to be looking to us to stand up for what we believe is right. And I keep getting the strong feeling that if we don't stand up for what we believe is right, it may all go very seriously wrong.
Re: __2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl___ by Daniel Pinchbeck
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 12:57 PMyes I understand Michael I have the same feeling
but I rather be in a forum where I need not waste energy
on 'stubborn' cases with their rigid views , too many 'gurus' are popping up
as mushrooms (and not Magick ones sigh ) everywhere .. and they all seem to bring up 2012
not surprisingly (of course it is 2008 in gregoriian terms )
it can be weary and from some I sense antagonism towards the Dreamspell .. still even tho'
a disclaimer is available @ the Foundation pages .. and Time is not standing still
the needs for Unity are evidently clear but some prefer to buy in the 'academical' and traditional ways
( as if we had all the time in the world .. it makes me even more impatient argh ! )
I have personal and strong reasons to support this system ( the Dreamspell or 13 Moon of Peace )
which besides my own personal experience with it ... should be obvious, by now to anyone who cares
.. to make a long story short I prefer forums
where I can constructively progress.. on my Path .. in accordance with Valum Votan vision
Blessed be !
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:46 PMValum Votan's vision.
I understand.
But it seems to me that possibly it is not going to descend (mind you, I've always been good at worrying) out of the sky ~ possibly ~ unless we help establish the ground in which it can flourish.
By the way, have you seen these images of craft /aerial vehicles I have been photographing out of my window here in Scotland:
www.worldgathering.net/scotland
This is exciting. I didn't find this craft in the photograph until much later after the other craft. This seems to be a spherical craft very close to a cloud (amazing clouds on that day) which is very similar to the Hopi's 'Rainbow Bridge' rock formation in North America:
Re: __2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl___ by Daniel Pinchbeck
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 2:33 PMwell I am busy in my own modest tribes by :
keeping the daily Oracle going
renewing the meaning of each wavespell as they come
and giving out general infos about the Movement of the 13 Moons of Peace
posting videos and holding threads on the subject ..I am not here to force others but to lead those with similar intent
towards it
.. some kin helps me out by gracing me with their intervention from time to time
and I pass it on to as many as I can .. I have 'infected ' (lol ) many and those were ready and willing .. !!
but I do not have a martyr complex so please do not invite me there ...again
last time I attempted I was basically targeted by some 'clever scholarly type ' that tried to convince me
that the Dreamspell is not the pure count (and so what ? that is not the reason why I embraced it
or It embraced me , I should say ) besides the fact that there are many counts even among the Maya
as I said .. not willing to expose myself to them ..
even tho' they all should be thankful to V V for reviving the interest to Maya .. they are not honouring this at all
but use it for their own personal advantage, that being workshop or a new book or whatever
they would be out of a job othervice ... but no gratitude .. well at each their own
and I am weary of bitter individual that want to dim my enthusiasm.....
I just hope someone will help me in my area with the Day Out Of Time this year ..
this is where I will focus my energy for now ..
Take care... see you around tribe or the UK
Re: __2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl___ by Daniel Pinchbeck
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 2:42 PMone more note 9or 2 ) before I leave this topic
Thank you for sharing the images but I am sort of skeptic as in my experience
'vessels' have something very organic about them .. they could be made of tree bark or flower petals
or like a shell or a aquatic jellyfish ...
or various light spectrum in geometrical forms .. so i have no clue about the mechanical looking ones
and note II
what I like about Pinchbeck is that is approach is a caring one and he seems
genuinely concerned .. also he is an Artist and not an old bore like some others
cheers !
